At Thomson Safaris, we would be happy to
arrange your international flights. The following are some
FAQ’s to help you understand your options.
Can Thomson take care of my flight arrangements even though
I’m not coming from the East Coast?
YES! In our catalog, we publish international flight
estimates based on typical east coast rates simply as an example
of available fares. We CAN book flights out of any major US
city and even Canada.
Which airline does Thomson Safaris use?
We have a contract with Northwest/KLM. They are the only carrier
offering convenient service from the US, via Amsterdam, direct
into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
When do flights to Tanzania need to be booked?
Since there is only one KLM flight per day that offers this
convenient routing, flight availability is quite limited.
It is best to think about flights about a year in advance
to ensure your best chance at getting the right dates and
lowest fares to match your safari or Kilimanjaro plans. Round
trip flights are not available for purchase until 11 months
prior to your return date.
Why do you publish such a broad range of flight prices
in your catalog?
Well, we have to start somewhere! Rates vary widely, varying
by season and availability. June through August are NW/KLM's
busiest months and air rates are highest during this season.
Can I stopover in Amsterdam? And will you book my
hotel?
If there is flight availability, we can arrange stopovers
for you. (There is a surcharge for this, so please call us
for details.) We are not able to book your Amsterdam hotels,
but we will happily give you tried and tested recommendations
and contact numbers.
Can I use frequent flier miles for an upgrade or
a free flight?
Per our contract with Northwest/KLM, we are NOT able to apply
your frequent flier miles. If you would like to use them,
you can book flights on your own, and we will assist in advising
on the appropriate times and dates.
Can I use frequent flier miles to get to Amsterdam
and then join your flight from there to Tanzania?
Our contract with Northwest/KLM requires that we book the
entire flight, including the transatlantic portion
to Amsterdam.
Why do I have to pay a fuel surcharge?
If only we could avoid this! This is a variable fee imposed
by Northwest/KLM, and they reserve the right to increase or
decrease it at any time before the ticket is purchased. To
avoid potential fluctuations in the fuel surcharge, you can
purchase your ticket well in advance of your trip departure.
Please note, that once it is purchased, flights can no longer
be altered, should you wish to add an extension, do an Amsterdam
stopover or arrive early / depart later on your trip.
Can I book my own flights?
Absolutely. We offer convenience and competitive rates by
booking the flights with us, but you can certainly make the
arrangements on your own if you prefer. We simply ask that
you check with us about the dates and times, so that we can
make sure everything is in order. We also ask that you fax
or email the flight itinerary to us so that the Arusha staff
is aware of all your arrival and departure details and be
sure to book appropriate transfers and/or accommodations for
you.
If I want to fly in early or depart later, will you
still pick me up at the airport?
Sure! We can arrange for private airport transfers, extra
hotel nights or additional activities (these extra services
will require additional fees).
