Mount Meru Trek

The second-highest peak in Tanzania, in a lot of ways Mount Meru feels like Kilimanjaro’s “little sister.” Meru looms over Arusha, reaching 14,979 feet at its summit.

Just 45 miles to the west of Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru also features multiple distinct climate zones (including a cultivated area, a forest belt, heath and moorlands, and alpine desert) as you ascend, and, like Kilimanjaro, is crowned in snow. Trekkers have spotted a wide variety of wildlife on Meru’s slopes, including black and white Colobus monkey, baboon, hundreds of bird species, warthog, and even elephant and giraffe!

Trekking Mount Meru doesn’t require any technical climbing expertise, but it is physically demanding. Because of this, and because of its altitude, it’s an ideal acclimatization climb before a Kilimanjaro trek.

We are featuring group Mount Meru treks prior to these scheduled Kilimanjaro climbs:

KILIMANJARO: WESTERN APPROACH TREK - AUGUST 10, 2014
KILIMANJARO: WESTERN APPROACH TREK - FEBRUARY 24, 2015

SPECIAL GROUP RATE: $2,100 (per person, based on double occupancy)

You can also add a Mount Meru trek on to any Kilimanjaro climb.
