FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHER - DENIS CLAVREUL

"I preferred not to adulterate the simplicity and
sincerity of on-the-spot work. Most of the sketches
were done straight from the open roof of the Land Rover"

Tanzania Notebooks
|
|
Most travelers to Tanzania like to record their impressions
on safari. Some click away with cameras, others take
videos, and still others keep a running journal, dutifully
noting images, experiences and thoughts.
|
|
Denis Clavreul records his impressions in a sketchbook.
Sometimes he manages only a few lines before the object
disappears from view. Other times he captures whole
scenes unfolding before him. Later, in the stillness
of camp, he revisits the animals, people and landscapes
in his mind's eye and adds color.

Born and raised in France, it was his childhood dream
to travel to Africa and apply his artistic talent to
the subjects of the African wilderness. He finally realized
his dream and his illustrations are recorded in his
book, Tanzania Notebooks available at many gift
shops in Tanzania.Now
he returns to Tanzania on a regular basis and is working
to produce a new book. Last year in Ruaha National Park,
Judi Wineland, owner and director of Thomson Safaris,
had the pleasure to witness him at work when they found
themselves staying in the same lodge. She was impressed
with his ability to capture the essence of the
Tanzanian wilderness - it's wildlife and people.
