Day 1-2
Depart North America / Arrive Arusha


Connect in Amsterdam with your flight to Kilimanjaro Airport, arriving late evening. You will be met by Thomson Safaris staff and transferred to your lodge. We can arrange your international flights, please call for competitive pricing and availability.

Day 3
Arusha


Begin your exploration of Tanzanian culture with a visit to Ilkiding'a village on the slopes of Mount Meru. Learn about Tanzanian life as you speak with the locals, visit a master Maasai knife carver and enjoy the lush scenery.

Day 4
Tarangire National Park


Today you will depart Arusha, traveling southwest through the Maasai Steppe to Tarangire National Park, Tanzania's fourth largest.

  • Afternoon wildlife viewing in Tarangire National Park
  • Brief Swahili lessons with your guide
  • Overnight: Thomson Tarangire Nyumba
 
 

Day 5
Tarangire National Park


Spend another day in Tarangire National Park, viewing some of Tanzania’s largest populations of elephant and enjoying the diverse scenery, including the dramatic baobab trees that are so typical of the park.

  • Full day wildlife viewing in Tarangire National Park
  • Overnight: Thomson Tarangire Nyumba
 
 

Day 6
Tarangire / Mto wa Mbu / Ngorongoro Highlands


Depart Tarangire this morning, wildlife viewing along the way. On your way to Gibb's Farm, you will stop in Mto wa Mbu where you are sure to increase your understanding of Tanzania's fascinating culture: taste banana beer, see coffee being roasted and witness the art of wood carving.

  • Guided walk through the village of Mto wa Mbu
  • Optional visit with Daniel Tewa, a local historian and storyteller

Day 7
Ngorongoro Crater


Depart Gibb's after a leisurely breakfast and head deeper into the highlands until reaching the Ngorongoro Crater rim. The crater is a geological marvel boasting several vegetation zones from lakes to forest to savannah. It is home to about 30,000 animals, despite its tiny size of only 10 miles across.

  • Full day of wildlife viewing on floor of Ngorongoro Crater
  • Overnight: Gibb's Farm
 
 

Day 8
Ngorongoro Highlands


With Gibb's Farm as your base, spend the day enjoying a myriad of activities and cultural pursuits in the Ngorongoro Highlands.

  • Visit Tloma village, stopping at local businesses and markets
  • Visit a local school
  • Optional afternoon activities:
    • A walk through the estate focusing on indigenous medicinal plants
    • Afternoon tea on verandah
    • Visit with the artist in residence
    • Spa services (additional fees)
  • Overnight: Gibb's Farm
 
 

Day 9
Olduvai Gorge / Serengeti National Park


After breakfast, continue your journey into the heart of Tanzania by heading west, toward the Serengeti Plains.

  • Brief stop at Olduvai Gorge
  • Picnic lunch in the park
  • Afternoon wildlife viewing in Serengeti National Park
  • Overnight: Thomson Serengeti Nyumba
 
 

Day 10
Serengeti National Park


This morning, enjoy the vastness of the Serengeti, "the land that flows on forever," along with some of the best wildlife viewing that Africa has to offer. Take an optional walk to Robanda village this afternoon to visit with the Ikoma tribe. The Ikoma are known for their hunting prowess, drumming and dance, and storytelling.

  • Half day of wildlife viewing in Serengeti National Park
    (if you have advance reservations, make an early departure for your hot-air balloon excursion today)
  • Optional walk to Robanda village - visit with the Ikoma tribe
  • Overnight: Thomson Serengeti Nyumba
 
 

Day 11
Private Nature Refuge


Make your way to a private nature refuge, a remote and pristine region located east of Serengeti National Park. Its unique geography, and its location outside the park make it a perfect destination for discerning guests who wish to enjoy a true wilderness and exploration experience. Please note: A $100 per person conservation fee is applicable on all itineraries visiting the private nature refuge.

Day 12
Private Nature Refuge


This frontier-like land offers limitless off-the-beaten-path adventures and exclusive wilderness and cultural experiences.

  • Early morning exploration on foot
  • Visit Maasai boma

Day 13
Arusha / Depart


Before leaving, meet some more of our Maasai friends in the neighboring village at Enyuata women's collaborative. Late this morning, take a short flight to Arusha. While you are there, enjoy a farewell lunch, some shopping and a dayroom to prepare for your flight home this evening.

  • Visit a women's collaborative
  • Flight to Arusha (33lbs baggage maximum)
  • Farewell lunch in Arusha
  • Dayroom in Arusha
  • Transfer to the International Airport for your flight home
 
 

Day 14
Arrive North America


Connect in Amsterdam and arrive in North America. Please check your flight itinerary for arrival dates and flight details.
