January 22: Depart U.S.
Depart the United States en route to Amsterdam.

January 23: Amsterdam/ Arusha, Tanzania
In Amsterdam, connect with your flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport, arriving in the late evening. Upon arrival, you are met by your guide and transferred to beautiful Kigongoni Lodge, located on a historic coffee farm just outside of Arusha. You may wish to enjoy a late night snack before heading off to bed.

January 24: Tarangire National Park
After breakfast and a safari briefing, you drive to Tanzania’s fourth largest park: Tarangire. Giant baobab trees and umbrella acacias dot the rocky hills and verdant valleys. Wildlife is drawn to the Tarangire River, a year-round source of water for huge herds of elephants, zebras, antelope of all shapes and sizes, gazelles, lions, leopards and hyenas. Have lunch at camp before embarking on an afternoon of wildlife viewing. Reminisce about the day’s discoveries over dinner in the evening.

January 25: Tarangire National Park
Enjoy another day exploring this unique landscape. The trunks of the enormous baobabs are as big as houses, and in fact, over the centuries, the local people have used them for shelter. Watch for families of baboons crossing the road or scan the trees for leopards.

January 26: Ngorongoro Highlands
Wildlife viewing as you go, depart Tarangire and visit the vibrant village of Mto Wa Mbu. A brilliant display of colors, sights, sounds, and smells welcome you as you walk through the backroads of the village. Eat lunch at Gibb’s Farm, which is surrounded by a coffee farm and overlooks lush and verdant agricultural country. The gardens are exquisite, as is the food, which is prepared fresh daily with the best of the morning’s harvest. Take a guided walk on the farm this afternoon.

January 27: Lake Manyara National Park
Awaken to the dawn chorus of local birdlife, with tea and coffee served on your private veranda. Have breakfast before departing for Lake Manyara National Park. This beautiful park is home to spectacular wildlife and you can look for elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, giraffes, and baboons. At the lake, watch for hippos and an array of birds, including colorful bee-eaters, barbets, kingfishers, gigantic ground hornbills and white-backed pelicans.

January 28: Nainokanoka & Olmoti Crater
Depart early this morning to visit a school and clinic located in the village of Nainokanoka. After lunch, stretch your legs on a walk to scenic Olmoti Crater, a lush and untouched part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The hike up the crater is steep with uneven terrain. Light hiking boots are advisable for the walk.

January 29: Ngorongoro Crater
The geological marvel known as the Ngorongoro Crater is unique in the world; it has lakes, forests, savannas, and an astounding population of 30,000 animals within 102 square miles. It is no wonder that this crater is often referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World. After a day exploring the crater and surrounding region, return to camp to enjoy its seclusion and rustic beauty.

January 30: Oldupai Gorge & Serengeti National Park:
Depart early this morning for the great Serengeti, stopping at the legendary Oldupai Gorge to explore where some of the earliest remains of human species were unearthed by the dedicated Leakey family. The small but informative Gorge Museum exhibits the Leakeys’ archeological methods and remarkable finds. As you travel further into the African wilds, look for giraffes, lions, ostriches, zebras and warthogs.

January 31 : Serengeti National Park
At this time of year, vast herds of wildlife make up the migration amassed on the plains. Watch for lions, cheetahs and hyenas, as well as the swiftly running gazelles and thundering wildebeests across the endless open spaces. It is also calving season for wildebeests, and you may spot a mother bringing new life into the world.

February 1: Serengeti National Park
Have the whole day for wildlife viewing in the Serengeti. On one of these mornings, those with advance reservations will wake early to enjoy a sunrise Serengeti Balloon Safari.

February 2: Serengeti National Park
You have another full day to journey far and wide in this immense park, allowing your guides to lead the way. An infinite number of dramas play themselves out on these endless plains: Predators stalk prey; animals eat, scavenge and graze; mothers nurture their young; birds hover and soar overhead; young animals frolic and older animals keep a watchful eye on the vulnerable little ones. Enjoy one more night in this unforgettable wilderness and prepare for your re-entry into the bustle of the modern world.

February 3: Serengeti / Arusha / Depart
After breakfast, say goodbye to your guides and head back to Arusha on a short, mid-morning flight. Have a farewell lunch in Arusha and relax in your day room before dinner. Fly home later this evening.

February 4: Amsterdam / U.S.
Connect in Amsterdam for your return flight to the United States.
