Sample Itinerary

Days 1-2  Depart U.S. / Arrive Arusha

Upon arrival, you are met by your guide and transferred to the Mountain Village Lodge. The circular bungalows are based on a traditional Maasai design and are well furnished, featuring private verandahs with garden views.

Overnight: Mountain Village Lodge

Day 3  Arusha ⁄ Ngorongoro Highlands

   
   

After breakfast and a pre-departure meeting at the hotel, you head across the Maasai steppe towards the Ngorongoro Highlands and Gibbs Farm.

On the way, visit Lake Manyara National Park for your first day of wildlife viewing and photography. Arrive at Gibbs Farm, a working coffee estate and organic farm, in time to settle in and enjoy a delicious dinner.

Day 4  Ngorongoro Highlands

   
 

Using Gibbs Farm as your base, depart after breakfast for Mto Wa Mbu a bustling village where many of the 120 different cultural groups in Tanzania are represented. This presents a great opportunity to photograph Tanzanian village life.

Early this afternoon return to Lake Manyara for lunch and another afternoon of wildlife viewing. Return to Gibbs for another wonderful dinner and a relaxing evening.

Day 5  Ngorongoro Crater

   
 

 

After breakfast, continue up the winding escarpment road and stop for your first awe-inspiring look at Ngorongoro Crater. Enjoy lunch at the lodge before your 2000-foot descent into this magnificent wildlife haven.

Photographic opportunities abound in this unique min-eco-system. At the end of the afternoon, return to your lodge perched high on the rim.

Day 6  Ngorongoro Crater

   
 

Enjoy more wildlife viewing during a full day on the Ngorongoro Crater floor. Bull elephant, wildebeest, antelope, hippo, flamingo and many, many more live within this 10-mile wide crater.

The dramatic landscape and abundance of wildlife highlight today's excursion.

Day 7  Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti National Park

   

Leaving the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, stop at Olduvai Gorge. Then, journey into the great Serengeti for superb game viewing on vast open plains.

Spend four nights in your comfortable Classic Camp, well-located for the best game viewing.

Day 8  Serengeti National Park

   
 

Enjoy another full day of wildlife viewing in Serengeti National Park.

During your stay in the Classic Camp, you will have access to a private Photo Tent, equipped with generators and tables where you will be able to clean equipment, recharge batteries or download images if you have brought a laptop.

Day 9  Serengeti National Park

   

This morning you have the option to do a Balloon Safari over the Serengeti (additional fee and advance reservations required).

This will give you a bird’s eye view over the plains and the scenic Seronera River which meanders dramatically through park. After landing, a full English breakfast, complete with champagne white linens and silverware, will be served in the bush.

Continue on a full day of wildlife viewing.

Day 10  Serengeti National Park

   
 

Today is your last full day of wildlife viewing in the Serengeti.

With Andy on hand for photographic advice and your expert guides leading the way, you will spend the day exploring far and wide, searching out dramatic landscapes and exciting wildlife shots.

Day 11  Serengeti National Park ⁄ Arusha ⁄ Depart

   

You will have a final morning of wildlife viewing en route to the airstrip for the flight back to Arusha (33lbs baggage limit).

After a farewell lunch, there will be time to relax, shop or swim in the hotel's pool. There will be an evening transfer to the airport for the group.
