Denis
Clavreul
|

|
|
Denis Clavreul grew up in the
French countryside outside of Nantes, in the Loire Valley.
There, he was exposed to life on a farm, and as a result,
he developed a love of nature and a connection to the earth
from a very early age. Later, this led him to study biology
and ecology, and eventually, he earned a PhD in ecology from
the Universities of Nantes and Rennes. A self-taught artist,
Clavreul combined ecology and art later in life, much the
way one of his inspirations, John James Audubon, did in the
nineteenth century.
Denis is a soft-spoken but passionate artist.
He has taken several trips to Tanzania, one of which resulted
in an acclaimed collaborative work called Tanzania Notebooks.
He encourages those who attend his workshops to set aside
self-critical attitudes and experiment with what they observe
as individuals, capturing fleeting moments, rather than getting
side-tracked by rigid notions of perfection. It is a very
freeing concept that will not only help you “see”
your surroundings from a different perspective but improve
your sketching abilities. |
Denis Clavreul's watercolor work is featured in the Thomson
Safaris materials.
