Day 1-2
Depart U.S. / Arrive Arusha


Connect in Amsterdam with your flight to Kilimanjaro Airport, arriving late evening. You will be met by Thomson Safaris staff and transferred to your lodge.

Day 3
Arusha National Park


Explore the diverse landscape of Arusha National Park. Share an unforgettable moment when you see a giraffe or elephant for the first time! Stretch your legs on a brief hike to a nearby waterfall and have a picnic lunch before returning to the lodge.

Day 4
Tarangire National Park


Today you will depart Arusha, traveling southwest through the Maasai Steppe to Tarangire National Park, Tanzania's fourth largest.

  • Afternoon wildlife viewing in Tarangire National Park
  • Overnight: Thomson Tarangire Nyumba
 
 

Day 5
Tarangire National Park


Spend another day in Tarangire National Park, viewing some of Tanzania’s largest populations of elephant and enjoying the diverse scenery, including the dramatic baobab trees that are so typical of the park.

  • Full day of wildlife viewing in Tarangire National Park
  • Swimming at Tarangire Safari Lodge
  • Overnight: Thomson Tarangire Nyumba
 
 

Day 6
Ngorongoro Highlands


At long last, you will meet your Tanzanian pen pals! Your family can interact with Tanzanians at schools and the homes of Thomson Safaris’ longtime friends for games and activities. Gain a further understanding of Tanzanian life during your excursions from Gibb's Farm today.

  • Optional afternoon activities include mountain biking, spa services, bird watching, coffee roasting, tea on the verandah, a visit to the artist in residence, and more!

Day 7
Ngorongoro Crater


The Ngorogoro crater is a geological marvel where almost 30,000 animals live year-round. This is a paradise for animal lovers who can expect to see lions, zebras, hippos, hyenas, flamingoes, baboons and much more.

  • Full day of wildlife viewing on the floor of Ngorongoro Crater
  • Overnight: Gibb's Farm
 
 

Day 8
Olduvai Gorge / Serengeti National Park


After breakfast, continue your journey into the unspoilt wilderness of Tanzania by heading west, toward the Serengeti Plains.

  • Brief stop at Olduvai Gorge
  • Wildlife viewing in Serengeti National Park
  • Overnight: Thomson Serengeti Nyumba
 
 

Day 9
Serengeti National Park


Enjoy the vastness of the Serengeti, "the land that flows on forever," along with some of the best wildlife viewing that Africa has to offer.

  • Wildlife viewing in Serengeti National Park (if you have advance reservations, make an early departure for your hot-air balloon excursion today)
  • Afternoon of traditional Tanzanian games, soccer, or sketching/painting at your Nyumba
  • Overnight: Thomson Serengeti Nyumba
 
 

Day 10
Private Nature Refuge


Make your way to a private nature refuge located in the Serengeti eco-system, east of Serengeti National Park. Welcome to Maasai country!

  • Explore the area on foot looking for animal tracks
  • Overnight: Thomson East Serengeti Nyumba
 
 

Day 11
Private Nature Refuge


This remote and pristine region is a private wilderness refuge - its unique geography, and its location outside the park make it a perfect destination for families who wish to enjoy a true wilderness and exploration experience. In the afternoon, you will learn more about the Maasai culture by visiting their homes and then later, they will visit you at your campfire.

  • Morning hike
  • Maasai boma visit
  • Gather around the campfire to listen to traditional folklore from a Maasai storyteller
  • Overnight: Thomson East Serengeti Nyumba
 
 

Day 12
Private Nature Refuge / Arusha / Depart


Depart this morning and spend the rest of the day in Arusha, with a farewell lunch, some shopping and a dayroom to prepare for your flight home this evening.

  • Scenic flight to Arusha (33lbs baggage maximum)
  • Farewell lunch in Arusha
  • Shopping
  • Dayroom in Arusha
  • Swim in the pool at your lodge
  • Transfer to the International Airport for your flight home
