No Middleman

We own and run our local operations in Tanzania and also
have offices in the U.S.

We design our own safaris.

Our safaris are a great value because you buy direct from us -
your safari outfitter.

We have complete control... an asset that sets us apart.

Two of Our Tanzanian Guides

"From the moment we stepped off the plane in Tanzania up to
the day we left, your people took care of us like we were family."

Local Operations in Tanzania
We were the first U.S. company licensed to operate safaris in Tanzania over 25 years ago. Today we employ nearly 70 staff in our Arusha operation. We own and maintain our own safari vehicles and employ our guides year-round, rather than subcontract from a pool of guides like other companies do. Our U.S. safari experts are in daily contact with our Tanzania office giving us a measure of control other companies just don't have.

Serengeti Lion

We Design Our Own Safaris
Whether you want to trek to the summit of Kilimanjaro, witness the migration of wildebeest in the Serengeti or experience the ancient culture of the noble Maasai people, you want to make sure that your itinerary allows you the best experience possible.

We understand the importance of a great itinerary.

  • All-inclusive pricing with round-trip international airfare from the U.S. (Land only pricing available)
  • A pace that allows for immersion in your experience
  • Taking into account the seasonal concentrations of wildlife
  • Accommodations that are a good value and located in the best areas
  • Keeping safety first
  • Traveling in well-maintained custom fitted four wheel drive safari vehicles
  • No mileage restrictions while wildlife viewing
  • Traveling with experienced and knowledgeable Tanzanian guides who are fluent in English and passionate about their country.

At Thomson Safaris we design all our own itineraries based on our on-the-ground, first-hand experience. Between our office in Arusha, Tanzania and our knowledgeable U.S. staff, we take care of every detail to ensure you have the trip of a lifetime!

Our Safaris Are a Great Value
We are the operator, which means that you buy direct from us, rather than from brokers who mark up their tours. Further, the prices that you see listed for our safaris include all your major expenses: meals, accommodations, and even park fees. Most safari operators restrict the number of miles their drivers can drive per day. We want you to have the most rewarding wildlife experience so we do not have a mileage restriction for our guides and drivers.

Our services include air arrangements from more than 100 KLM and Northwest Airlines gateway cities throughout the U.S. Our groups are always small. Finally, the undeniable evidence that we offer excellent services at a reasonable price is the fact that the majority of our business comes from past safari guests who enthusiastically recommend us to their friends. "Thomson's approach to travel in Tanzania is understated and we really appreciate that. They are a classy organization, in that we always traveled in a low-impact manner. And when we met local people we felt as though we were joining them in their daily lives rather than coming in as voyeurs... I can't imagine that anyone can do it better."
